Resource-saving features are more and more in demand for new home construction and renovation projects all thanks to the utility costs rising over the last few years.

Today’s standards and programs enable manufacturers to evaluate available products and fixtures. As an example, new showerheads have to meet the standard of 2.5 gpm flow rate at 80 psi. Older showers, which use as much as 8 gpm, can be retrofitted to save over 50% water consumption without reducing the strong jet spray and that alone is a great saving on water-heating energy.

What to look for are high quality low flow fixtures, especially for the showerhead, which is an inexpensive item that will pay for itself saving you money on the energy and water bills. Be aware that lower quality showerheads might reduce water flow without providing pressure you need for good shower.
